How to add a functioning carousel indicator component?

Hello there! I'm quite new into this world of web design/development and just found this webslides project to be quite fascinating because I don't feel "ashamed" for using PowerPoint and Keynote only to build interesting presentations.

I assembled my presentation and added some custom carousel indicators but I haven't been able to make them work by writing custom JS nor by applying Bootstrap classes.

What is the best route to accomplish this? Can it be done?
