GNU social is a federated social network, and the eldest still running. This repository is my copy of the nightly branch of its v3 rewrite. The project lives on Codeberg at GNUsocial/gnu-social, and its site is gnusocial.rocks.
v3 rebuilds GNU social on Symfony 5. The core is small, and everything else is a component or a plugin that hooks in through events, as the architecture docs describe. Components cover the parts every instance needs, such as feeds, posting, conversations, groups and search. This branch has 30 plugins, ActivityPub federation among them, along with polls, Markdown and LaTeX notes, OAuth 2 and media encoding.
I was a core maintainer from 2021 to 2022 and led the rewrite, funded by an NLnet NGI0 grant. I wrote 1,080 of the commits on this branch, more than anyone else working on v3.
INSTALL.md covers installation, and docs/ has the user, administrator, designer and developer guides, also published at docs.gnusocial.rocks.
