Hi, can you move this to maybe just after the import gi call on line 7:

# system imports
import os
import sys
import gi

from gi.repository import GLib
GLib.set_prgname("mintupdate")

import time
...

(and remove the later GLib import)

This way, both res_class and res_name are updated. If it's performed after the Gtk import, only res_name can be updated.

Doing this allows you to eliminate the matching desktop file change - I'd rather only have this done in one place.
