Color Cans is a local-first app. The developer does not receive your inventory, history, purchase prices, photos, sketches, scanned barcodes, or camera images.
The app contains no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or cross-app tracking technology, and the developer does not sell personal information.
This Privacy Policy explains how the Color Cans mobile application ("Color Cans", "the app") accesses, uses, stores, shares, and deletes information.
Color Cans is maintained by the Color Cans project under the developer identity kronos481.
Color Cans may store the following information locally on your device:
- spray-can inventory and archive records
- inventory history and usage events
- brand and product information
- colors
- barcodes
- volumes and fill levels
- cap counts
- purchase prices
- locally calculated statistics
- app settings
- user-selected can photos
This information is stored in the app's private storage on your device.
Barcode scanning and Sketch Inspect use the camera only after you activate the feature and grant camera permission.
Camera frames and sketch analysis are processed on the device. Color Cans does not upload camera frames, sketches, or detected colors to the developer.
If you select an image through the Android system file or photo picker, the app accesses only the item you select. A selected can photo may be copied to the app's private storage so that it remains available in your inventory.
The core inventory functionality works without an internet connection.
If public catalog synchronization is enabled in a release, Color Cans may request public barcode, product, and market-price records from the configured catalog service over HTTPS.
These requests do not contain:
- your inventory
- your photos
- your sketches
- scanned codes
- advertising identifiers
- an app account identifier
As with any internet request, the service hosting the catalog may receive technical connection data such as an IP address, request time, and basic request headers.
Color Cans does not use this technical connection data for advertising or tracking.
The Legal Walls feature loads:
https://www.legal-walls.net/country/germany
in an in-app browser and may also open the website in an external browser.
The website may use cookies or receive connection and browser information under its own terms and privacy notices.
The voluntary support button opens:
Any donation, account, or payment information is handled by Ko-fi and its payment providers, not by Color Cans.

This Privacy Policy and support requests are hosted through GitHub.
GitHub may process website and service usage data under its own privacy policy.

The Can Market and catalog may contain links to public retailer or manufacturer websites.
Those websites process visits according to their own privacy policies.
When you leave Color Cans or use embedded third-party content, the relevant third party controls its own data processing.
Color Cans does not control third-party cookies, logs, accounts, or payment processing.
Color Cans may use the following permissions and system features:
Used to:
- scan barcodes
- scan Color Cans QR codes
- run Sketch Inspect locally
Camera access is only used after you activate a camera-based feature and grant permission.
Used to:
- load optional public catalog updates
- access Legal Walls
- access privacy and support pages
- open external links
Used to read only an image that you explicitly choose.
Color Cans does not request unrestricted access to your entire photo library.
Color Cans does not request access to:
- microphone
- contacts
- precise location
- SMS
- phone calls
- advertising ID
- background location
You can choose to share a Color Cans QR code or export inventory history as a CSV file.
Sharing happens only after your action through Android's system share interface.
The app or person you select as the recipient controls the shared copy after it leaves Color Cans.
Android may include Color Cans settings, inventory data, and locally stored can photos in a platform-managed cloud backup or device-to-device transfer when backup is enabled on your device.
Google or the relevant device platform provider controls that backup service.
Color Cans does not independently operate or access those backups.
Local app data is stored inside Android's app-specific storage and is protected by the operating system's application sandbox.
Supported network requests made directly by Color Cans use HTTPS.
No internet-connected system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Device security also depends on factors including:
- your operating system
- screen-lock configuration
- backup settings
- other apps with which you choose to share data
Active and archived inventory records remain locally on the device until you delete them.
Archiving a can keeps its history and statistics.
Permanently deleting an archived can removes that record and its associated local events.
You can delete all local Color Cans data by:
- clearing the app's storage in Android settings, or
- uninstalling the app
The developer does not operate a remote Color Cans account or cloud inventory containing your personal inventory data.
Copies created through Android backup, CSV export, QR sharing, or another receiving app are subject to the retention and deletion controls of the relevant platform, storage location, or recipient.
Public catalog data cached by the app may remain until:
- app storage is cleared
- the cache is replaced
- the app is uninstalled
Color Cans is a general-audience utility and is not specifically directed to children under 13.
The developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
You can:
- deny or revoke camera permission in Android settings
- avoid optional third-party pages and external links
- permanently delete individual archived cans
- clear all Color Cans app data
- uninstall Color Cans
- control Android backup through your device or Google account settings

If confidential information is necessary, you may first request an appropriate private communication channel.
This Privacy Policy may be updated when Color Cans features, data practices, or legal requirements change.
The current version will remain publicly available in this repository with an updated "Last updated" date.
