License and Attribution of Gazebo SVG Logo?

Hello, Gazebo Team,

I am the author of @localizethedocs organization, which focuses on manufacturing the l10n projects of documentation for various open-source projects. So far, I have published some l10n projects. For example:

• localizethedocs/cmake-docs-l10n
• localizethedocs/python-docs-l10n
• localizethedocs/ros2-docs-l10n

Currently, the gazebo-docs-l10n project is in the incubation phase. In order to use the logo of the upstream project in README.md by jsDelivr, I need to upload the Gazebo SVG logo file to the localizethedocs/static repository, first.

The following resources are what I found about the Gazebo SVG logo:

However, I didn't find the information about its license. What attribution should I need to provide?

May I ask if the Gazebo logo is a registered trademark of Open Source Robotics Foundation (Just like the ROS logo)? If so, then how about the following attribution?

Yes, the logo is a trademark of Open Source Robotics Foundation. As noted at the bottom of https://gazebosim.org/media, the materials are licensed under CC BY 3.0. It should actually be CC BY 4.0 as the license in gazebosim/docs, but we haven't updated that yet.

Hi @azeey, I would like to clarify whether the Gazebo logo is a registered or an unregistered trademark of the Open Source Robotics Foundation. If it's a registered trademark, is there an official trademark guidelines document available, similar to the ROS Trademark Rules and Guidelines?

Yes, it is registered to the OSRF. We're working on a Gazebo specific doc, but for now you can use the guidelines from the ROS document you mentioned.

In the meantime, would it be okay if I use the attribution above without the link to the trademark guidelines?

Yes, I think that would be fine.
