UI feedback: Liquid Glass toolbar controls feel too visually heavy #3844
The current Liquid Glass-style controls in TablePro's main window look overly glossy and visually heavy. The design feels somewhat awkward compared with the otherwise clean, productivity-focused interface.
This is subjective UI/design feedback, rather than a functional bug.
What feels off
Tables / Favorites: The rounded, translucent segmented control at the top of the sidebar feels too prominent for such a small utility switcher.
Connection and database selectors: The large pill-shaped backgrounds draw unnecessary attention to the toolbar.
Toolbar actions: Multiple separate rounded/glass groups across the top make the window chrome feel busy and visually inconsistent.
Overall, the Liquid Glass treatment competes with the content area instead of quietly supporting it.
Suggested improvements
Could you consider a more restrained look?
Reduce the gloss, contrast, borders, and visual weight of the pill backgrounds.
Make toolbar and sidebar controls more consistent in size, shape, and spacing.
Consider a more compact, subtle style for the Tables / Favorites switcher.
Alternatively, offer a classic / minimal toolbar appearance option for users who prefer less pronounced Liquid Glass styling.
I don't think the app needs to abandon native macOS styling—just tone down the visual effects a little.
On macOS 26 and later the glass on toolbar controls is drawn by the system: AppKit gives each kind of control its own glass, and how heavy it looks is set in System Settings > Appearance > Liquid Glass and in Accessibility > Display > Reduce Transparency. Apps can't opt out on the current SDK, so there won't be a classic mode.
#3851 lines the app up with Apple's layout rules instead: Save sits in its own section at the end of the toolbar, Tables / Favorites is a flat tab control on macOS 27, and view switchers across the app share one tab style.
