I tried, but it seems like the current implementation does not work in Node.js.

The synchronous version should work fine in nodejs, but the async worker is indeed only targeted at browsers.
I'm not sure what's the best way to bundle a node library alongside the current exports.

While I'm looking into adding a node specific async version, you can use the synchronous version, optionally rolling you own workers if needed.
