• to avoid the error, use pyshp version < 3

1. Wait for pyshp 3.0.3 to be released and available via conda-forge (recommended long-term solution)
2. Temporarily downgrade to pyshp 2.4.1 (the previous stable version before 3.0.x):
   pixi add pyshp=2.4.1

-> Will pin pyshp until this is solved

Hello @PaulaSp3 and @fso42 . I've only just noticed this. Sorry version 3 of PyShp caused this bug. If it isn't fixed in 3.0.3, and if you have any more info about the error, what it relates to, or even an example shapefile, I'm happy to take a closer look.

@JamesParrott : for us it is solved with pinning our version to be >= 3.0.3. I'll ask @PaulaSp3 whether she still has the problematic test file available

@JamesParrott : I attach an example for a shp file, for which we get an UnboundLocalError when reading the polygon using version 3.0.2 with e.g.
sf = shapefile.Reader(str(infile))
records = sf.shapeRecords()
shps = sf.shapes()

Using version >= 3.0.3, no error occurs.
