test-with-nginx.sh only ever validates against whatever nginx:latest is today. The new tests/test-version-matrix.sh runs `nginx -t` inside each pinned official image: a minimal full config and the gzip/open-file-cache templates must pass on all four versions, while HTTP/3-era fixtures are gated by the version that introduced their directives — http3-quic.conf skips on 1.18/1.22 and runs on 1.25/1.27, and early-hints.conf (needs 1.29) exercises the skip path on every row until a newer tag joins the matrix. Docker missing or a vanished Hub tag skips with a reason instead of failing, matching the test-with-nginx.sh contract; run-tests.sh invokes it as a skippable section.
