What is the Crew Roster?

The Crew Roster provides all the details and current status for the entire corps of astronauts assigned to the Kerbal Space Agency. Using the Crew Roster is a great way to keep track of what everyone is currently doing, as well as take a look at what kerbals have done in the past.

Cookie Use Policy

The Flight Tracker uses cookies stored on your computer via the web browser to enable certain features of the website (declared in the sections below where used). It does not store tracking information nor use any third party cookies for analytics or other data gathering. The Flight Tracker's core functionality will not be affected should cookies be disabled, at the expense of certain usability features.

Full Crew Roster

This is the default view of the Crew Roster and allows you to quickly see all the astronauts assigned to the KSA. The sizes of the portraits will depend on the amount of crew to display, getting smaller and smaller as the size of the astronaut corps grows to keep vertical scrolling to a minimum. When your mouse cursor hovers over an image you will see additional information about the kerbal. Clicking on an image will take you to that kerbal's Crew Details.

Menu & Filters

By default, no filters are selected for the menu on the right side of the page as you are taken to the Full Roster. If you wish to select individual kerbals from the menu you first need to assign a filter to sort them by. Only one filter can be applied at a time. To clear the filters select "None". The menu will always contain links to the Full Roster and the Flight Tracker.

Name

This will sort the crew into 4 categories alphabetically by first name. The ranges will be A-F, G-L, M-R and S-Z. Expand the category to see the individual astronauts listed within.

Status

The current status of the astronaut will inform you of whether they are alive, dead, on mission, MIA, etc. There can be several types of assignment to this field and all astronauts will be grouped into categories that match the various assignments designated. Expand the category to see the individual astronauts listed within.

Rank

Astronaut ranks vary from Captain to Specialist to Scientist to Commander, etc. There can be several types of assignment to this field and all astronauts will be grouped into categories that match the various assignments designated. Expand the category to see the individual astronauts listed within.

Mission

An astronauts mission is their current assignment, which may be an actual mission like "Unity IV" or simply "Kadet Training". There can be several types of assignment to this field and all astronauts will be grouped into categories that match the various assignments designated. Expand the category to see the individual astronauts listed within.

Notifications (Cookies Only)

If you have cookies enabled you can see what crew have had updates or have been added since your last visit to the Crew Roster. Notifications are not pushed, so you will have to refresh or visit a new page in the Crew Roster for any new notifications to show up. Visiting the kerbal's details page will remove the notification. In the future we may also add support for push notifications.

Event Calendar

The Event Calendar shows you the current local time at KSC, the current UTC offset and any planned launches or maneuvers. On various devices the displayed time can vary by a few seconds, no more. For more on how time affects operations for the KSA and why you're seeing an Earth clock, see our About page.

Future events will show up with details on the event including exact local time and a countdown timer with a link to the vessel attached to the event. Hovering your mouse cursor over the link will display a tooltip containing a brief description about the event.

Below each active event is a checkbox you can check to tell the site you would like to be reminded of the event 5 minutes prior to its scheduled time. At that time the page will pop up an alert window giving you the option to jump straight to the vessel's detail page. This alert will steal focus off your current browser tab or cause the Flight Tracker tab to blink in order to grab your attention (browser-dependent). Once the event is closer than 5 minutes this option will disappear.

Note: reminders will not work if the Flight Tracker is not loaded in a tab/window when the reminder is supposed to fire. In the future we may enable support for push notifications that would remove this limitation.

Also see the Known Issues (#5) for a timing issue that can affect this feature.

Cookie Feature: if you have cookies enabled the Flight Tracker will save your reminder selections from session to session (leaving the site and returning). Otherwise, leaving the page will reset the checkbox.

Twitter Stream

Below the Event Calendar is a twitter widget that will, depending on the situation, contain a live feed from the @KSA_MissionCtrl account or a timeline of tweets specific to the kerbal being viewed. You can use this widget to browse the timeline, add us to your follow list and tweet directly to our twitter account if you also have an account.

Crew Details

Each crew member has a page dedicated to them that goes into more detail about their personal and service history.

Background Info

When you hover your mouse cursor over the image of the astronaut you will see caption text slide up that contains additional personal information, background and a summary of their service history. Removing the mouse cursor from the image will remove the text.

Mission Info

This area contains various data related to the missions the kerbal has been on. Any text with a dotted underline contains a tooltip with additional data you can see by hovering over it with your mouse cursor. The contents of this area will vary depending on the service history of the kerbal being viewed. A drop-down list contains reports from all the missions the kerbal has participated in, you can select one to be taken to the page containing the full report.

Ribbons

Ribbons are awarded to kerbals for a variety of merits achieved during active service. You can hover your mouse cursor over any ribbon to see what it stands for and the date on which it was awarded.

Archive Data

A tag icon next to the name of the vessel will open up additional tabs that will pull up images of the kerbal that have been posted to our flickr account as well as any entries related to the kerbal that have been posted on our website. This is a very useful means of quickly learning more about the kerbal and their mission history.

Popout Window

In the footer links below the ribbons you have the option to open the current kerbal in a separate window sized to fit the content of the crew details page. This can be useful if you want to view more than one kerbal at a time or just want to move it off to a separate monitor. You may be asked to allow your browser to enable the website to create new windows and maybe have to click the link a second time.

Note: to prevent the popup from getting hidden beneath other windows and forgotten, clicking on an external link will close the window.
