Building Seavers — a scientific and technological institution spanning ocean, atmosphere, and space.
I’m a student working at the intersection of marine science, machine learning, and aerospace. My focus is on building credible, open-source tools before reaching for bigger things.
seavers.de · Below the horizon.
Seavers is structured around three pillars — SEA · AIR · SPACE — with the long-term ambition of becoming a research-driven institution in the tradition of MBARI and GEOMAR, but with integrated technology development.
The strategy is deliberate: build verifiable, publishable tools first. Institutional credibility before outreach.
Open-source bioacoustics analyzer for marine mammal vocalizations.
- Classifies fin whale, humpback whale, and sperm whake (more to come) vocalizations from hydrophone recordings
- PANNs CNN14 with AudioSet pretraining — trained on mel spectrograms with recording-level data split
- Data sourced from NOAA, MBARI, Macaulay Library, and Orcasound
- Apache 2.0 · Python 3.11+ · PyTorch · librosa
In active development. Targeting ≥80% F1, Zenodo DOI, and pip installability.
Python · PyTorch · librosa · scipy
Node.js · Express
Vercel · Hostinger VPS
- Echo v2 — PANNs CNN14 architecture, ≥80% F1, recording-level data split
- Coastal Twin — Digital twin of the German North Sea coastline for erosion monitoring
- Seavers-Gyre — ML-enhanced ocean drift simulator for particle dispersion and plastic accumulation modeling; positioned as a modern, data-driven alternative to OpenDrift
