I would say this is very likely upstream in the hugo theme so @jarrodmillman or @stefanv may want to transfer it to that repo?

This has partially to do with the theme, and the initial node from the above screenshot has trouble with this line:

If I remove this and the empty label, the START label works fine:

There has been some discussion about adding dark mode styles for Mermaid diagrams, but I don't think anyone implemented it. I take it that scientific-python/scientific-python-hugo-theme#593 is still in the "waiting for feedback" or "final push" stage.
