Here will be the DM spec

User Story: As a user, I want to directly message other users on a secure platform that works offline so that I can communicate effectively even without connectivity.

Acceptance Criteria

I can send direct messages to other users.

Direct messages sync peer-to-peer when offline and update server-side when online.

All direct messages are stored server-side to support HR or compliance reviews.

Notes:

MOL Priority: High, but not a blocker for POC

MOL has requested that we add the ability for users to have direct messages with eachother. In order to support this we need to first complete the parent issue of Chat Groups. DM's in the first release will be non-encrypted, which is less secure than we would like for it to be long term. The way this will work, is users will have a new chat icon from within the chat room and they can simply select a user from the user table and kick off a chat with them.

Direct messages

    • Structure: Same as current

    • Collection: DM_Room
    • Structure: Same as current + participants
      • participants: Array of user Id's (in this case only 2 user ids.)
        • This will set us up well for private or managed rooms

DM's will piggy back on the same functionality that already exists for chat but we will have a separate collection to house the rooms and messages for those rooms.

On the Rooms page we should see a section for Direct Messages and all the rooms that are DM will be listed there. In the user object we should also update both the subscription and mention objects so that they have a DM section for each and all subsequent updates that follow as well.
