Problem to solve
Foundry OSD includes a Windows 11 AppX removal catalog for pre-OOBE debloat/customization, but the list should be reviewed and refined to better match current Windows 11 inbox and optional app packages.
An outdated or incomplete catalog can cause administrators to miss removable consumer apps, select packages that are no longer relevant, or misunderstand which apps are safe to remove by default.
Proposed solution
Review and refine the Windows 11 AppX removal catalog used by Foundry OSD.
The refinement should:
- Review the current catalog entries against supported Windows 11 releases.
- Add missing removable AppX packages where appropriate.
- Remove or de-prioritize obsolete package identifiers when they are no longer useful.
- Improve display names and categories where needed.
- Keep default-selected packages conservative.
- Avoid selecting apps by default when removal could break common enterprise workflows.
- Preserve explicit user choice for optional Microsoft apps such as Teams, Outlook, Photos, Calculator, Notepad, Paint, and similar productivity or utility apps.
The implementation should update the catalog and any relevant validation/tests so generated deployment configuration remains consistent.
Alternatives considered
Administrators can manually maintain custom removal scripts outside Foundry, but that duplicates logic already present in the app and makes the Foundry customization experience less complete.
Use case
A system administrator configures a Windows 11 deployment profile and wants a reliable, up-to-date list of removable provisioned AppX packages. They can choose what to remove from Foundry OSD without needing to maintain separate package lists manually.
