Revision to Fatiando a Terra project governance

[leouieda]

Hi everyone, we're proposing some changes to our governance model:

1. After several years of service, @aguspesce @MGomezN and @LL-Geo are stepping down from the Steering Council. Please join me in thanking them for their service and all the energy they put into the project!
2. I'm proposing a reorganisation of the project to better reflect our size. We will no longer have the role of the Benevolent Dictator for Life (BDFL). I want to reserve my right to be kicked off the project if I become a problem. Instead of a Steering Council, we'll have Project Leaders (for now, me and @santisoler) which will focus on long term participation as leaders of the project. You can see the proposed changes in this PR: Remove role of BDFL and reform the Steering Council into Project Leaders #178

If anyone has any thoughts and comments about these changes, they are very welcome! Feel free to do so here, in our chat, or on the PR linked above. If there are no objections by Friday next week (8 of may 2026), I'll go ahead and merge the PR and make the new changes official.
