K2: Compact & Grid List Density Options #84

Description

@definitelynotguru

Competitor Context

Bear has a compact note list view (smaller thumbnails, single-line titles, tighter spacing). Apple Notes has default and compact options. Google Keep has a grid/list toggle. Different users have different visual preferences — some want to scan 30 notes at a glance, others want rich previews.

What's Missing

Recall has one fixed note card density. On a 1080p screen, only ~6 notes are visible at once.

Proposed Solution

  • Add a View toggle in the note list header: Comfortable (current, rich previews), Compact (single-line, smaller cards), Grid (card grid like Google Keep)
  • Compact mode shows: title | #tags (max 3) | relative date | word count hint — all on one line
  • Grid mode shows: colored cards in a 2-3 column responsive grid with title and first 2 lines of preview
  • Persist the preference per device in local storage (not synced)
  • Default to Comfortable for new users, allow changing via Settings or quick toggle

Why Recall Wins

Apple Notes' compact view is great but binary (on/off). Google Keep's grid is great but Keep is just sticky notes. Recall can offer three densities — comfortable for reading, compact for scanning, grid for visual browsers — matching the best of both apps.
