F1: Nested Tags / Tag Hierarchy #67

Description

@definitelynotguru

Competitor Context

Bear supports nested tags with #parent/child syntax. Tags in the sidebar are collapsible trees. Searching #work includes all #work/meetings, #work/projects, etc. Notion has database properties and relations for similar hierarchical organization. No major cross-platform app does nested tags as cleanly as Bear.

What's Missing

Recall has flat tags only. A user with 50+ tags sees an unsorted, flat list with no way to group related tags.

Proposed Solution

  • Support / in tag names: #work/meetings, #school/math, #projects/recall
  • In the sidebar tag list, render these as a collapsible tree with expand/collapse arrows
  • Clicking #work shows ALL notes tagged #work OR any #work/* descendant (inclusive search)
  • Auto-complete in the tag input suggests child tags when a parent is typed (typing #work/ suggests meetings, projects, etc.)
  • Backward compatible: existing flat tags continue working unchanged

Why Recall Wins

Bear's nested tags are elegant but Apple-only. Recall can bring the same pattern to cross-platform, with the added benefit of NLP tag suggestion when creating notes.
