Add “real world” tests #1381

Description

@hsorby

Given the state of the codebase is now mature enough for use in modelling applications it would seem a good time to add some real world test cases so that the library doesn’t lose sight of the fact that it is meant to work how researchers need it to.

Some of the most recent bugs have occurred when researchers have scaled their models to larger system environments. Having real world tests that run on a schedule but are not part of the development cycle will help developers to not lose sight of the end goal.

The first question that pops up is what frequency should the schedule run at?
