Question: Relationship between AgentCore CLI and Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit

I have been using the Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit (Python-based CLI) for developing and deploying agents to AgentCore.

I noticed the README states:

Public Preview: If you previously used the Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit, uninstall it before using this CLI

This clearly indicates that AgentCore CLI is the successor to the Starter Toolkit.

I'm about to start a long-running project that will begin with a POC phase and eventually move to production. I'd like to understand the positioning of this CLI to decide whether to adopt it from the start or stay with the Starter Toolkit during the early phase.

Specifically, I'd like to ask the maintainers:

1. Starter Toolkit status: Is the Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit still being maintained, or should new projects use this CLI going forward?
2. General Availability: The README says "Public Preview." Is General Availability planned in the near future?

The AgentCore CLI is the successor to the Bedrock AgentCore Starter Toolkit. The Starter Toolkit is being deprecated, and we are working on a migration/deprecation path to make the transition smooth. For new projects, we recommend starting with the AgentCore CLI directly.

We're actively working towards GA but don't have a specific timeline to share at this point. We'll communicate updates as we have them.

Given that this CLI is the path forward and you're starting a new project, adopting the AgentCore CLI from the beta phase would be the right call. This avoids a migration later and ensures you're building on the tool that will continue to receive new features and improvements.

As a heads-up, since we're still in the public preview phase, please be aware that breaking changes may occur as we iterate toward GA.
