<p>
I am currently a PhD student at Dalhousie University under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Roger. During the summers of 2021 and 2022, I participated in the Erasmus+ program as a research intern in Dr. Courtney Stairs’ lab at Lund University, Sweden. I completed my BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Abdullah Gül University, Türkiye in 2023. In May 2025, I successfully transferred from the MSc to the PhD program at Dalhousie.

<p>
My research involves developing a ‘spatial proteomic map’ of a unicellular eukaryote (<i>Skoliomonas litria</i>) that we have hypothesized to lack a mitochondrial compartment. Spatial proteomics is a relatively new technique also referred to as ‘localization of organelle proteins by isotope tagging’ (LOPIT) whereby cells are fractionated into subcellular components by lysis and sequential centrifugation steps. Studying the entire proteome of S.litria will advance our knowledge of how cells metabolize their nutrients and generate energy in extreme anaerobic, hypersaline, and alkaline environments.
