Clustering/high availability examples?

Hi,
It would be great to have some examples or some reasoning around the high availability features. The etcd clustering part is pretty straight forward, but what would the rest of the architecture look like? Active/passive or active/active, load balancer in front for new connections, how would it work when the client subnet is shared between nodes, etc?
