is there a way to change the default location of the .cap files

I would like to store the .cap files in an external disk, I tried to do a soft link in the file system but that caused issues.

If it's not in the roadmap, is it okay if I work on it ?

Currently there's no built-in setting to change the recordings location. The paths are hardcoded to use the platform's app data directory:

• macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/cap/recordings
• Windows: %APPDATA%/cap/recordings
• Linux: ~/.config/cap/recordings

For implementation, the key files you'd need to modify are:

1. apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/general_settings.rs - Add a new field like custom_recordings_path: Option<PathBuf> to GeneralSettingsStore (around line 84-148). The settings use tauri_plugin_store for persistence.

2. apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/tray.rs:135-139 - The recordings_path() helper function currently returns the hardcoded path. This would need to check the settings first.

3. apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/recording.rs:609 - The start_recording() function hardcodes recordings_base_dir with app.path().app_data_dir().unwrap().join("recordings").

4. apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/recovery.rs:47-51 and 80-84 - The crash recovery system also uses the hardcoded path.

5. apps/desktop/src-tauri/src/update_project_names.rs:51 - Uses recordings_path() to find existing recordings.

A centralized recordings_path() function exists in tray.rs - you could move this to a shared location and have it read from GeneralSettingsStore when a custom path is configured, falling back to the default. The UI for the settings page would need a directory picker component in apps/desktop/src/routes/settings.
